If you are a Primary 6 student who loves playing badminton and has a talent for it, you may be interested in applying for Direct School Admission for secondary schools (DSA-Sec) based on your badminton skills. DSA-Sec allows you to secure a place in a secondary school of your choice before taking the PSLE, as long as you meet the school’s criteria and selection process.

But how do you apply for DSA-Sec in badminton? Here are some steps to guide you:

1. Explore your school options. Different schools offer different talent areas and each has its own selection process and schedule. You can visit the schools’ websites or attend their open houses to find out more about their badminton programmes, facilities, coaches, achievements and culture. You can also check the MOE website for a list of schools that offer DSA-Sec in badminton.
2. Prepare your application materials. You will need to submit your application online through the DSA-Sec Portal by 3pm on Wednesday, 31 May 2023. You will need to provide your personal details, academic results, CCA records, achievements and awards related to badminton, as well as a video of yourself playing badminton against another player in a competitive setting. The video should showcase your gameplay, movement, shot skills, footwork, attitude and service consistency.
3. Attend the selection trials or interviews. If you are shortlisted by the schools, you will be invited to attend selection trials or interviews conducted by the schools between June and September 2023. The trials or interviews may involve physical tests, skills assessment, game observation and/or interaction with coaches and teachers. You should prepare yourself physically and mentally for the trials or interviews and demonstrate your passion and potential for badminton.
4. Select your preferred schools. If you receive DSA-Sec offers from one or more schools by mid September 2023, you will need to choose up to 3 school choices in order of preference using the DSA-Sec Portal in late October 2023. You should consider carefully which school suits you best in terms of its badminton programme, academic rigour, culture and values.
5. Receive your school allocation results. If you have put SJI as your first choice and you qualify for the Express/Special stream based on your PSLE results, you will receive a notification that you are posted to SJI in late November 2023. Congratulations! You have successfully applied for DSA-Sec in badminton!
