Are you a Primary 6 student who is passionate about science and wants to pursue it at a higher level? If so, you might be interested in applying for the Direct School Admission (DSA) for secondary schools in the science area (Science DSA).

What is DSA-Sec?

DSA-Sec is a scheme that allows P6 students to apply to some secondary schools before taking the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE). They can apply based on their talent in sports, arts, academic areas, etc.

Why apply science DSA?

If you have a strong interest and aptitude in science, mathematics or engineering, you can apply for DSA in the science area to join a secondary school that offers programmes or activities that cater to your passion. For example, some schools offer the Integrated Programme (IP) that allows students to skip the O-Level examination and proceed directly to the A-Level or International Baccalaureate (IB) examination. Some schools also offer specialised science programmes such as the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science Diploma Programme or the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Applied Learning Programme.

How to apply for science DSA?

To apply for science DSA, you need to:

– Check the eligibility criteria and selection process of the schools that offer DSA in the science area. You can visit their websites or attend their open houses for more information.
– Prepare your portfolio and supporting documents that showcase your achievements and potential in science. For example, you can include your academic results, awards, certificates, testimonials, projects or research papers related to science.
– Submit your online application through the DSA-Sec Portal by end of May. You can apply to up to three schools in order of preference. There are no application fees.
– Attend interviews or auditions conducted by the schools that shortlist you. Different schools have different selection processes and schedules. You will receive DSA-Sec offers directly from the schools by September usually.
– Choose up to three school choices in order of preference using the DSA-Sec Portal by end October. You will receive your final posting results together with your PSLE results in late November.

What to prepare before applying for DSA-Sec in Science?

Before applying for science DSA, you should:

– Do some research on the schools that offer science DSA and their programmes or activities. You can visit their websites or attend their open houses to find out more about their curriculum, culture and expectations.
– Assess your own interest and aptitude in science and how it aligns with your goals and aspirations. You should also consider your strengths and weaknesses in other subjects and areas besides science.
– Talk to your parents, teachers or mentors for advice and guidance. They can help you make an informed decision and support you throughout the application process.

If you are admitted to a secondary school through DSA-Sec, you must commit to your chosen school for the duration of the programme. You are not allowed to transfer to another school or submit school choices during the S1 posting process. Therefore, you should carefully consider your options and preferences before applying for DSA in the science area.
